The Great Barrier Reef, a natural wonder of the world

The Great Barrier Reef is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Australia. It is a vast coral reef system composed of over 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching for over 1,400 miles over an area of approximately 133,000 square miles. The reef is located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland, Australia.

The Great Barrier Reef can be seen from outer space and is the world's biggest single structure made by living organisms. Known as coral polyps. There are many ways to experience the Great Barrier Reef.

You can go sailing, snorkeling or scuba diving to see the coral reefs and the marine life that lives there. You can see fish, turtles, dolphins, whales and sharks. You can also take a boat tour or a helicopter ride to get a bird's-eye view of the reef. If you want to stay on the reef, there are many resorts and hotels that offer accommodations.

The best time to visit from May to October when the weather is the most pleasant and the water visibility is best for diving. Pro tip: If you are a diver, make sure you go to the outer reef and don’t just stay in the inner reef. Most importantly, be respectful of the reef and remember that it is a fragile ecosystem that is under threat from climate change, pollution, and overfishing.

So take your sunscreen, but don’t leave it there. Do you part to protect this amazing natural wonder for future generations.
