At the intersection of countries, the world's largest year-round ski area

Want to visit the world’s largest high altitude ski area at the foot of the Matterhorn, but have concerns about the cost or visa requirements for Switzerland? Consider staying on the Italian side.

Cervinia is the highest ski resort in the Italian Alps. It is known for its stunning views of the Matterhorn, and for its extensive ski and snowboard terrain. In fact, the ski lifts from Cervinia connect directly to Switzerland via the Zermatt link. There is also a ski lift in nearby Courmayeur that can take you up to France for lunch, above Chamonix. Word to the wise, this requires a little 3-mile peak to peak Aerial Tramway connection. This whole area is truly a skier’s paradise and, given the altitude, the snow never leaves, so you won’t want to leave either.

Cervinia is located about 124 miles from Milan, and can be reached by car, train, or bus. That said, the closest airport is actually in Geneva, Switzerland, which is 93 miles away, but beware the drive is through the mountains. Milan is definitely an easier connect. If you do end up falling in love and staying, you won't be bored in Cervinia. Besides for the snow there is hiking, biking, paragliding, rock climbing, golf, tennis, swimming, shopping, and dining, so even summers there are great.

    Ciao ragazzi!
