Antibes, France, fit for a princess

Lionel Richie's daughter, Sofia Richie, had her wedding ceremony in Antibes this past summer. Antibes is a beautiful town located on the French Riviera. It is a popular tourist destination, known for its beaches, nightlife and its art scene.

Antibes has a long and rich history. It was founded by the Greeks in the 6th century BC. The Romans later conquered the town and made it an important trading post. In the Middle Ages, Antibes was ruled by various powers, including the Saracens, the Holy Roman Empire, and the Kingdom of France. In the 16th century, King Henry II of France fortified the town to protect it from attacks by the Ottoman Empire.

There are many things to see and do in Antibes. For example, one can visit the Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a maze of narrow streets, old buildings, and charming squares. One can also explore the beautiful beaches, visit the Picasso Museum (which itself is a 16th century castle), take a boat trip to the Cap d'Antibes peninsula and go swimming, sunbathing, or hiking while there. Or you can stay in town and go shopping by day and enjoy the nightlife in the evenings. There are many bars, clubs, and restaurants open late into the night. It’s quite a scene. Especially in the summer.

The nearest airport is Nice Côte d'Azur Airport. Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc: This luxurious hotel is located on Cap d'Antibes. It has a private beach, a Michelin-starred restaurant, and a spa. No wonder it was Sofia Richie's choice.
